Parippu Vada Recipes
Introduction
Parippu vada, also known as dal vada, is a popular snack from Kerala, India. It is made with chana dal or split Bengal gram, which is soaked in water for a few hours and then ground into a coarse paste. The paste is then mixed with spices and deep-fried until crispy and golden brown. Parippu vada is usually served with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup. For the parippu vada, you will need the following ingredients:- 1 cup chana dal
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 green chillies, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- 2 tbsp curry leaves, finely chopped
- 2 tbsp coriander leaves, finely chopped
- Salt to taste
- Oil for deep frying
- 1 cup grated coconut
- 2 green chillies
- 1 inch ginger
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp urad dal
- 1/2 tsp chana dal
- 1/4 tsp asafoetida
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste
Instructions
Follow these instructions to make parippu vada:- Soak the chana dal in water for 3-4 hours.
- Drain the water and grind the dal into a coarse paste.
- Add finely chopped onions, green chillies, grated ginger, turmeric powder, asafoetida, curry leaves, coriander leaves, and salt to the dal paste.
- Mix well and make small balls out of the mixture.
- Flatten the balls into patties and deep fry them in hot oil until golden brown and crispy.
- Drain the excess oil on a kitchen towel.
- Serve hot with coconut chutney or tomato ketchup.
- Grind grated coconut, green chillies, and ginger into a fine paste.
- Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, chana dal, and asafoetida.
- When the mustard seeds start to splutter, add the ground coconut paste and salt.
- Cook for a few minutes until the raw smell of the coconut goes away.
- Remove from heat and serve with parippu vada.
