Plain Scones Recipe

To make plain scones, you will need the following ingredients:- 350g self-raising flour
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 85g butter
- 3 tbsp caster sugar
- 175ml milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 egg, beaten (for brushing the scones)
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven to 220°C/200°C fan/gas mark 7 and line a baking tray with parchment paper. 2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. 3. Cut the butter into small cubes and rub it into the flour mixture with your fingertips until it resembles breadcrumbs. 4. Stir in the caster sugar. 5. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk and vanilla extract. 6. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour in the milk mixture. 7. Use a wooden spoon to mix everything together until it forms a sticky dough. 8. Dust a clean work surface with flour and turn out the dough onto it. 9. Lightly knead the dough until it comes together and is smooth. 10. Roll out the dough to a thickness of about 2cm. 11. Cut out the scones using a 5cm round cutter. 12. Place the scones onto the prepared baking tray. 13. Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg. 14. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes until the scones are golden brown. 15.
