Instructions
For the cake: 1. Preheat the oven to 350°F. Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans and set aside. 2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside. 3. In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. 4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract. 5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, alternating with the milk, until just combined. 6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. 7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean. 8. Cool the cakes in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack. For the caramel sauce: 1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat sugar and water over medium heat, stirring constantly until the sugar has dissolved. 2.
