With a slow cooker, you can make pulled pork with minimal effort, and the results are just as good (if not better) than traditional methods. In this article, we'll be sharing a recipe for pulled pork in a slow cooker that is perfect for those in the UK.Ingredients
For this recipe, you'll need the following ingredients:- 2kg pork shoulder, bone-in
- 2 onions, chopped
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tbsp cumin
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 2 cups of BBQ sauce
- 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Here's how to make pulled pork in a slow cooker:- Start by trimming any excess fat from the pork shoulder, but leave the bone in as it will add flavour to the meat.
- In a small bowl, mix together the smoked paprika, cumin, salt and black pepper.
- Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, making sure to cover it evenly.
- Place the chopped onions and minced garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Add the pork shoulder on top of the onions and garlic.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the BBQ sauce and apple cider vinegar.
- Pour the BBQ sauce mixture over the pork shoulder, making sure it's evenly coated.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 8-10 hours, or until the pork is tender and falls apart easily.
- Once the pork is done, remove it from the slow cooker and place it on a cutting board.
- Using two forks, shred the pork into small pieces.
- Skim any excess fat from the BBQ sauce in the slow cooker.
- Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and toss it with the BBQ sauce until it's well coated.
- Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for an additional 30 minutes to an hour, or until the pork is hot and the sauce has thickened.
- Once the pork is done, serve it on a bun with your favourite toppings, like coleslaw or pickles.
Optional step:
If you prefer a crispy texture on your pulled pork, you can transfer the pork to a baking sheet and broil it in the oven for a few minutes until it's crispy.Nutrition
