Cottage Pie Recipe Jamie Oliver
Introduction
Cottage Pie is a classic British dish that has been enjoyed for centuries. It is a hearty meal that is perfect for the colder months and is made with ground beef, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. The dish has many variations, but today we will be sharing Jamie Oliver's Cottage Pie recipe.Ingredients
For the filling:- 2 onions, peeled and chopped
- 4 carrots, peeled and chopped
- 2 sticks of celery, trimmed and chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, peeled and chopped
- 2 sprigs of fresh rosemary, leaves picked and chopped
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 kg of quality minced beef
- 2 tablespoons of tomato puree
- 400 ml of beef stock
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon of balsamic vinegar
- Sea salt
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 1.5 kg of potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 100 g of butter
- 100 ml of milk
- Sea salt

- 75 g of cheddar cheese, grated
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven to 180°C/350°F/gas 4.2. Start by making the filling. Heat a large ovenproof casserole pan on a medium heat.
3. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the pan and add the onions, carrots, celery, garlic, rosemary, and bay leaves.
4. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the vegetables are soft.
5. Turn up the heat and add the minced beef to the pan.
6. Brown the meat for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
7. Add the tomato puree, beef stock, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper to the pan.
8. Bring to a simmer and cook for 30-40 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
9. While the filling is cooking, make the mashed potatoes. Boil the potatoes in a large pot of salted water for 15-20 minutes until they are soft.
10. Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot.
11. Add the butter and milk to the pot and mash until smooth.
12. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
13. Once the filling has cooked, remove the bay leaves and spoon the mashed potatoes over the top of the meat.
14. Use a fork to make a pattern on the mashed potatoes.
15. Sprinkle the grated cheddar cheese over the mashed potatoes.
16. Place the casserole pan in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and the top is golden brown.
17. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
18. Serve with some steamed vegetables or a side salad.
